RoboCop Reboot Will Be Different

Recent years have seen an increase of movie remakes/reboots peppering the box office with the likes of Spiderman, Arthur, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and so on, not all of which have been a step in the right direction. So you would be forgiven for giving a big fed up sigh when you hear that much loved 80′s movie RoboCop is getting a reboot.
Alas this is not all doom and gloom and it will stand out from other reboots according to director Jose Padilha.
Padiha has announced that he will not repeat what has already been done in the RoboCop franchise and create a new fresh version, when speaking to Dutch entertainment website film1.
“I love the sharpness and political tone of RoboCop and I think that such a film is now urgently needed. But I will not repeat what Verhoeven has done so clearly and strongly.”
Good news? Well this does sound quite promising in a world of reboots and remakes, but he does kinda spoil this by saying some dribble about RoboCop dealing with real issues.
“I will try to make a film that will address topics that Verhoeven untreated. If you are a man changes into a robot, how do you do that? What is the difference between humans and robots developed? What is free will? What does it mean to lose your free will? Those are the issues.”
Surely we dont want RoboCop dealing with “issues” do we?
Anyway we shall find out when the movie is released at some point in 2013. Check back for more news on this one as its released.
